Add page numbers to a PDF without uploading it
A merged report, a scanned booklet, a contract assembled from several files. Documents that started life in pieces often arrive with no page numbers, which makes them awkward to reference and easy to shuffle out of order. This tool adds a clean page number to the bottom-center of every page in the format “3 / 12”, so the total is visible too. It uses pdf-lib running in your browser: the document is numbered locally and never uploaded, which matters when the file is a legal or financial document you would not hand to a random site. The existing content is preserved; the numbers are drawn into the bottom margin.

Where are the numbers placed?
Centered in the bottom margin of each page, in a small, unobtrusive gray, formatted as “current / total” (for example 3 / 12). They sit in the margin so they rarely overlap existing content.
Can I start numbering from a different page or number?
This tool numbers every page starting at 1, which fits the common case. For custom start pages, skipped front matter, or Roman numerals, a dedicated desktop PDF editor gives finer control, but for straightforward numbering, this is a one-click job.
Will the numbers cover up my content?
They are drawn low in the bottom margin, where most documents have whitespace, so overlap is uncommon. If a page has content running to the very bottom edge, a number could sit near it. Check the result, which takes a second since nothing uploads.
Is the PDF uploaded to be numbered?
No. pdf-lib adds the numbers in your browser, locally. The document never crosses the network, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.
