It does not crack, guess, or bypass an unknown password. qpdf runs in your browser, so the decrypted document is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
Can this open a PDF if I donât know the password?
No. This tool decrypts a file using the correct password, which you provide. It cannot recover, guess, or bypass a password you do not have. Password cracking is not something it does, by design.
Why remove the password at all?
Convenience and compatibility. Files you open constantly are tedious to unlock every time, and some tools and workflows refuse to process an encrypted PDF. Removing the password (once, for your own copy) solves both.
Is the PDF uploaded to be unlocked?
No. qpdf runs as WebAssembly in your browser, and the decryption happens in local memory. A file sensitive enough to be encrypted is exactly the kind you should not upload, and here you do not have to. It works offline once loaded.
What is the difference between âunlockâ and permissions?
Some PDFs open freely but restrict printing or copying (owner permissions); others demand a password just to open (user encryption). This tool takes your password and produces a fully decrypted copy with neither kind of restriction.
